Want a cool MIDI tune for your website, computer game, program demo, etc? We provide this service, giving you a standard MIDI file in General MIDI format, playable on any sound card with MIDI capability.
The tune embedded in this page was written and sequenced in about an hour. The quality of sound card in your computer will obviously have an effect on the quality of output. An FM synthesis card will produce mediocre output at best, whereas a wavetable or software synthesis card will be significantly better. The best possible option is to have a recent model external keyboard/synthesizer that's General MIDI compliant.
Note to Internet Explorer users: Microsoft has dropped support for the <EMBED> HTML tag, as of I believe IE version 5.5. This tag is used by Netscape, and older versions of IE to include a non-HTML or non-graphic file in a web page. Your browser would then load a plugin, which would in this case play the MIDI file within your browser. I believe this is a direct attempt by Microsoft to promote their ActiveX browser technology, which is now used to do the same thing. There are several large privacy and security concerns with regards to ActiveX, however. For instance, an ActiveX plugin has full access to all files on your computer, and could then return those files to the author of the plugin. This could potentially include financial data files, password databases, or any other sensitive files, and could happen even without the knowledge of the webmaster who uses this ActiveX plugin on their web page. As such, I refuse to use any ActiveX on this website. Unfortunately, due to Microsoft's short-sightedness and "security-as-an-afterthought" mentality, I must now inconvenience my IE using visitors, by making them click an extra link in order to hear the song.
IE users click here to hear the song.
In case you don't have any of this higher-end equipment, and you want to hear what the song really sounds like, it's available on the Recording page, called Jazz Number 1. It's the only song from the MIDI pages available in another format, for space reasons.
