Using freely available utilities, I'll remove any software which is designed to either turn partial or complete control of your computer over to a remote party on the internet, or to collect information about you, your computer usage profile, or your internet surfing habits.

This could also include software which is designed solely to deliver pop-up or similar advertising to your desktop.
